“EV’s have passed the tipping point, there is no longer a debate on whether or not EV’s are the future”.
Nearly all of the major manufactures have committed to going fully electric over the next decade. They are retooling their plants at this moment and rolling out new models of electric vehicles every year. EV’s have passed the tipping point, there is no longer a debate on whether or not EV’s are the future. 5 Steps To Commercial EV Charging
FAQ
How much does an installation cost?
Installation costs can vary significantly depending on location. A level 2 charger located close to a power source and mounted on a wall may cost around $7,000 for the installation + the cost of the charger. A DC charger, located 400 ft away from a 480 power source with underground boring needed could cost 40,000 or more + the cost of the charger.
The best way to determine accurate costs is for us to a do a site visit. On the site visit, we always look for the most cost-effective solution in the near term, while helping you plan for future charging to keep future costs down.
How much do the chargers cost?
This depends on the application. A level 2 charger can cost as low as $600 for the charger with network access and no ability to set rates. In most commercial applications you can assume somewhere in the range of $8,000- $15,000 for a level 2, networked. A DC fast charger will typically cost somewhere in the 30-60k range.
We work with nearly all charging manufactures. After our site visit, we’ll give you some recommendations based on your site requirements and find a solution that will meet your needs and fit your budget.
What is a networked charger and why do I need it?
Typically in commercial applications we always recommend a networked or “smart” EV charger. This simply means that the charger has software that allows you to restrict access to the charger and set pricing for charging. Even, if you plan to let everyone use the charger for free at first we recommend going with a charger that gives you flexibility as charging demand increase over the next couple years.
How long does it take to charge a vehicle?
A level 2 charger, will add around 30-35 miles of range per hour depending on the vehicle’s capabilities. On the low end of that range it would take about 8 hours to charge a vehicle from empty, however, generally, EV’s aren’t running that low. Most charging is done at home and public level 2 chargers are typically there to “top-off” before heading to their next destination. Most drivers would spend an hour or two at level 2 charger.
DC Fast Chargers can charge a vehicle to 80% in 20-30 minutes. These chargers are typically used as a “fill-up” and best located around areas of high traffic or areas with easy access to highways.
How do I keep people from staying plugged in all day?
With a networked EV charger, you can set time limits on charging. So you can charge a low rate for the first 2 hours, then increase that rate after those 2 hours. This will incentivize drivers to move their vehicle and not tie up a charging spot for other’s that might need.
I'm interested in providing chargers as a way to bring people into my store, how will they know I even have a charger?
Since EV chargers aren’t as readily available as gas stations, EV drivers have learned to rely on charging locator apps like ChargePoint’s app or Plugshare. These apps show where chargers are located on a map. With the ChargePoint app, drivers can not only see if a charger is located at your store, they can also see if there are available ports to plug into and reserve a spot in line at the charger through the app.
After we complete your installation we will add your charger to both the ChargePoint app if you are using a ChargePoint app and the Plugshare app so drivers can easily find your business.
Note: This is optional, if you only want to provide charging to your employees or residents for example, we won’t add your charger to any maps.
